The CASE 22 Expedition ( II )

We are now almost two weeks on Vinson of Antarctica and we enjoy it very much.

The crew and the scientists have nicely grown together and all daily work is going easy and smooth. In the evenings, we all contribute to a nice atmosphere by e.g. holding lectures on different topics like geology or sailing.

At the moment, the weather is cloudy but fine. Some days are a bit colder and today it was very foggy but during the days it always became much better.

Since we still cannot go to Nordaustlandet, we have spent some days in Raudfjorden to see the eclogites – rocks, which have formed in about 100 km depths.

At Alicehamna, we have visited the Raudfjordhytta, in which Karsten Piepjohn has stayed for two weeks thirty years ago. Now, we have arrived in Liefdefjorden and we are curious to see the rocks and structures, which we expect here.

Yesterday, we have seen our first polar bear. He was walking along the shore while we were safe on the Vinson of Antarctica.

Other animal sightings during the last days were Minky whales, walruses, and several seals.

The seals were watching us while we were working :)

The next few days we will stay in Liefdefjorden and we will keep you informed about our next steps.
