Education
The Vinson of Antarctica is not only a ship, but a powerful tool: Following her owner's vision, this polar expedition vessel aspires to become a vehicle to educate children and young people around the world through the Vinson's voyages.
We are working on an educational program called “Learning by Exploring”:
Learning by Exploring is an educational proposal aimed at those teachers who are interested in including the navigations of the polar expedition vessel Vinson of Antarctica in the learning process of their students.
Those teachers who are looking for a different way of teaching in the face of new educational challenges, as well as students curious about the natural environment and sailing culture will find an interactive, live, and exciting proposal.
Science and Research
The Vinson of Antarctica is ideal for baseline scientific surveys and supporting field parties.
The oceans not only cover about three quarters of the Earth’s surface but they also constitute the most relevant climate driver. However, our present knowledge about the oceans is by no means comparable to that of terrestrial or atmospheric systems.
Aboard the Vinson of Antarctica we are able to obtain data related to the ocean and the atmosphere of high value to the scientific community, both to delve into the ocean dynamics as well as in relation to climatology and factors associated with climate change.
Current Projects
Sea-Bird SBE37-SI MicroCAT Sensor
Our first collaboration is the installation of a salinity and temperature sensor, key parameters for understanding ocean dynamics. This project is possible thanks to the contribution of the Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB) and Institut Ciències del Mar - Consejo Superior Investigaciones Científicas (ICM–CSIC).
Awareness
Film and Documentary crews engage people on an emotional level by telling new and surprising stories that will capture the imaginations and win the hearts of their audiences.
The Vinson of Antarctica will bring them where they can offer a new level of appreciation for and understanding of our oceans.
